Singapore.... the anti-India. I could not think of two places that are more polar opposites. It was like stepping into bizzarro world where everything is opposite. Orderly traffic. Stiff penalties for littering. Everything on this island is presentable. Even the oldest buildings look well kept up. There is an easily understandable network of public transportation and their airport is by far the nicest we have ever seen. What a stark contrast to where we boarded the plane.
We arrived in Singapore about 2 hours later than we had anticipated. This is unfortunate because we were going to make a beeline for the zoo where they feed the Komodo dragons at 2pm. Komodo dragons eat meat and we thought it would be really cool to see and they only feed them once every two weeks on Sunday and that was today! Well, we tried as hard as we could to get there but we had to take a long metro ride and then hop on the city buy and it was 3:30 by the time we got there. That left us just enough time to see just about everything the zoo has to offer. Now, I must say, that this is the finest zoo I have ever been to. It's not too crowded and the animals are easily viewable and and in some places you are actually walking among the animals. We actually got to pet a ring-tailed lemur. This zoo also has a lot of endagered animals. We also were able to get right next to the worlds biggest bat, the flying fox. It was hanging upside down wrapped up just like Dracula and it was huge, about the size of a cat! I can't see how those things can fly. We did see the Komodo dragons, but they were just lounging around fully satiated from their meal. All that we could see left from the meal was the leg bone of some animal hanging by a rope from the tree. We also saw white tigers, sun bears, lots of primates, and lots of other animals you typically see at the zoo.
After the zoo we went to church.
I have uploaded a lot pics for Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Sri Lanka.
After the zoo we went to Chinatown because today is the Chinese New Year. Well, everything is closed in Chinatown because this is their holiday. We even had a tough time finding something to eat. After a while we went back to the airport where we had put our packs into storage. We decided to leave our packs in storage until later. We are going to spend the night in the airport because our plane leaves at 8:00 am. We crashed out in some cushy chairs. Linh got some sleep. I got about one hour of sleep.
